"The big cheese" (game)

The materials for this game and are a pencil or between one or more sheets and the teacher a marker or chalk, depends on the material of the board. The time spent usually does not exceed 45 minutes.

The game is about:

1. Give a list of irregular verbs in the present tense as como become (convertirse), bite (morder), buy (comprar), catch (atrapar), come (venir), draw (dibujar), drive (manejar), eat (comer), feed (alimentar), fight (pelear), find (encontrar), give (dar), know (saber), leave (abandonar), lose (perder), make (hacer), pay (pagar), read (leer), see (ver), sell (vender), sing (cantar), sit (sentarse), take (tomar), think (pensar), y write (escribir). You can use more complicated verbs for more advanced classes.

2. After you meets students per group and they must choose a representative for the group.

3. Then to they are given a series of sentences using the verbs given in present simple. Young people hear the sentence which the teacher read slowly.

4. You are asked each group to write the sentence, but using the verb in the simple past instead of the present tense.

5. Students will go to the teacher for the corroborating if is well written.

6. On the board, which must be the name of each group, the teacher will put them one point each group to do well.

7. At the end the group achieves more points will have the right to claim "The Big Cheese".

Past simple (Teenagers)

Forms

With most verbs the past tense is formed by adding -ed:

call >> called; like >> liked; want >> wanted; work >> worked

But there are a lot of irregular past tenses in English.

Here are the most common irregular verbs in English, with their past tenses:

Use

We use the past tense to talk about:

Something that happened once in the past:

-I met my wife in 1983.

-We went to Spain for our holidays.

-They got home very late last night.

Something that happened again and again in the past:

-When I was a boy I walked a mile to school every day.

-We swam a lot while we were on holiday.

-They always enjoyed visiting their friends.

Something that was true for some time in the past:

-I lived abroad for ten years.

-He enjoyed being a student.

-She played a lot of tennis when she was younger.

We often use phrases with ago with the past tense:

I met my wife a long time ago.

Questions and negatives

We use did to make questions with the past tense:

-When did you meet your wife?

-Where did you go for your holidays?

-Did she play tennis when she was younger?

-Did you live abroad?

But look at these questions:

Who discovered penicillin?

Who wrote Don Quixote?

We use didn’t (did not) to make negatives with the past tense:

-They didn’t go to Spain this year.

-We didn’t get home until very late last night.

-I didn’t see you yesterday.
